Why?

I love games and always have.  Video games, board games, card games, table top war games, games that I have made up when I was bored – flicking a rubber band against the ceiling – etc.  I am a very competitive person, just ask Liz, my wife.  One of the few times our relationship has been strained was when she cut off my settlements right from the start of a Settlers of Catan game.  We worked it out.

Ask my siblings as I think I killed games for them growing up.  I am rarely a poor loser and I usually try to learn from defeat but I really do not like losing.  As a child, if one of my brothers or my sister beat me at a game I would spend however long it took to perfect playing it, studying the game, analyzing its strategies, and becoming the best player possible.  I would then demand a rematch and steamroll my siblings from that point on-- probably not the healthiest behavior on my part.

As I have gotten older I have settled a bit and do not necessarily descend into a madness of strategic study if I lose a game.  Liz regularly destroys me in the board game, Ticket to Ride (among others) She tells me it is good for me and while it does not feel good, I have yet to spend a night by myself staring at the board working out its weaknesses.  With the demands of adult life I have to be a little more selective in my passion.  But I still love games whenever and wherever I can play them.

I started this blog to give myself an outlet for my zeal.  I am sure I will end up posting about other stuff not necessarily related to gaming as well.

Liz asked me, “But why Zombie Apocalypse?”  I have always had a fascination with Armageddon fiction.  Something about it is appealing to me. Armageddon ever happening in real life is pretty horrifying, but in a fantasized setting, the thought of battling to save imperiled loved ones, leading a party to safety and pushing yourself physically and mentally to survive seems like the height of adventure.

I look forward to talking about all things gaming with you.
